Jeffrey Hayden Mandel passed away after an extended illness at his home in Struthers. Services for Jeffrey will be at the Shriver-Allison-Courtney-Weller-King Funeral Home at 1:00pm on Wednesday and burial will be at the Akron Orthodox Jewish Cemetery at 2:30pm.
Jeffrey was born on January 30, 1949 in Youngstown and attended the Youngstown City Schools.
Jeffrey attended Bev Road Masco, The Retirement Center at Javit, and was most recently an employee at the Purple Cat’s Farmer Casey’s Ranch in Coitsville.
Jeffrey was full of life, always very kind to others, and had many passions. He was an expert in geography. He studied maps, globes, atlases, phone books and almanacs in his free time. Jeffrey also loved coins, especially quarters. Jeffrey was especially fond of uncovering where certain coins were minted. Jeffrey was an avid local news fan and often expressed dismay when local television personalities would go on vacation. Jeffrey also loved radios. His favorite was the RCA large transistor radio from Radio Shack. Jeffrey loved to try to find certain frequencies on his radios. He loved vinyl records too, especially 45 rpm records.
Jeffrey is predeceased by his parents, Helen Blanche Wolf and Irwin Paul Mandel and his loving sister, Melinda and his “traveling partner” brother, Neal.
He is survived by his brother Terry. Jeffrey leaves behind his friends at Marinelli Manor, The Purple Cat, Golden String Inc., and the Jewish Family Services’ “Our Gang” program.
